What Is an RBT?
The Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) credential is a nationally recognized certification in applied behavior analysis (ABA). RBTs work directly with children and families under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This role is often the first step in a rewarding ABA career.
How to Become an RBT
Getting certified is a structured process. Here’s how it works:
Complete the
40-Hour Training
Start with the free 40-hour online course, where you’ll learn ABA principles, ethics, and best practices.
Pass the Competency
Assessment
After training, demonstrate your skills through a competency evaluation conducted by a qualified BCBA.
Apply with the
BACB
Submit your application to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) with proof of training and assessment.
Schedule and Pass
the RBT Exam
Finally, take the RBT exam through Pearson VUE. Passing earns you your official RBT certification.
